Najy is engaged as Counsel and plays a leading role in the disputes resolution and civil litigation team. She has been with the firm since October 2017. Najy acts for various banks in relation to debt recovery matters, represents both national and international companies on contract and land disputes, employment matters. She has also been engaged in foreign arbitration matters and its related disputes at Maldivian Courts. In addition to this, Najy provides assistance in representing local and international clients against Maldives tax authority with regards to tax matters. Prior to her employment at S&A, Najy undertook a 3-month internship at Aequitas Legal Consultants, a law firm in the Republic of Maldives, where she also worked mainly on litigation matters.
NOTABLE MATTERS
- Member of the local legal team representing a world leading hotel operator and successfully obtained recognition of the award’s legality, validity and enforceability of arbitration agreements and foreign arbitral awards in the Maldives;
- Representing Bank of Maldives PLC, the national bank of the Maldives, in various disputes;
- Representing and advising The Mauritius Commercial Bank (Maldives) Pvt Ltd, an international bank with a branch in the Maldives, on matters related to debt recovery;
- Representing and advising state-owned utility companies such as the Male’ Water & Sewerage Company on employment matters and contract disputes;
- Representing telecommunication companies such as Dhiraagu and Medianet on dispute resolution matters such as intellectual property disputes;
- Representing various private companies including Sunland group of companies, Nazaki Services Private Limited, Fino Private Limited and Greenpath Private Limited.
