Siraj is engaged as Senior Consultant at S&A Lawyers LLP and has a broad legal background with 19 years of experience in corporate and commercial law, civil litigation, regulatory practice, criminal investigations and legal service in the public sector, private sector, the government and various projects. He has also served as Board Member of various corporations, served in the capacity of member and Vice Chairperson at the Elections Commission of Maldives and worked as a Lecturer in Law for different colleges and faculties established in Maldives. 
 
His key areas of work include legal advice, drafting Bills and regulations relating to employment, social security, elections and taxation. His practice is predominantly focused on commercial matters, legal advice and litigation on matters relating to tourism, real estate, banking and employment. Siraj has acted as a Maldivian Law Expert on several international arbitrations, and appeared as a factual witness in one international arbitration.

NOTABLE MATTERS

  • Acted as Program Consultant for International Labour Organization (ILO) (2009 - 2011)
  • Worked as the Director Legal Affairs at Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security 
  • Advised as the Legal consultant and investigator for the Presidential Commission established to investigate the death of an inmate in Maafushi Jail, and the subsequent shooting in September 2003. 
  • Advised as the Legal consultant and investigator for the Special Presidential Committee established in 2005 to investigate an alleged police brutality against a person in police custody; 
  • Advised as the Legal consultant and investigator for a major criminal investigation conducted by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives to investigate a suspected death of an inmate under police custody in March 2007. 
  • Advised as a member of the investigation committee appointed by the Judicial Services Commission to investigate various allegations of misconduct of a Supreme Court Judge (2014). 
  • Currently representing a leading hotel operator and successfully obtained recognition of the award’s legality, validity and enforceability of arbitration agreements and foreign arbitral awards in the Maldives. 
  • Served as a member of the Labour Advisory Board
